The SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is recruiting a Full-Time Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Division. This position will hold rank of an Associate Professor or Professor that is commensurate with qualifications and experience with Tenure eligibility.
The Division, which has offered gynecologic oncology services since 1953 seeks to find the most effective ways to prevent, detect and treat gynecologic malignancies and has tremendous opportunities for growth in research, patient care and education. The Division has a long history of providing care to Brooklyn women with pre-invasive and invasive disease in the female reproductive tract. The Gynecologic Oncology Division is a full member of the Gynecologic Oncology Group Foundation and pharmaceutical industry sponsored clinical trials, which provides unique treatment options to our patients and opportunities in advancing clinical outcomes in gynecological malignancies. The Division is actively participating in thirty (30) to thirty-five (35) NCI-sponsored Phase II and III cooperative group trials.
In 1967, the Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Program was established in the Division. It is one of the oldest and continuously accredited programs in the country. Additionally, the Gynecologic Oncology Division has an active robotic minimally invasive surgery program, which was established in February 2009. The Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Program most recent accreditation was on February 10, 2021.
Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Chair of the Department, develop a comprehensive strategy and plan for the growth as well as development of the division's clinical, educational and research activities.
In collaboration with the Chair, manage the administrative, finance, research and clinical operations for the Division.
In collaboration with the Chair, develop a strategy to grow and expand a funded research program including translational, clinical and health services research.
Accountable for the recruitment, retention and the development of the Gynecologic Oncology faculty who excel in clinical, education and research missions.
In collaboration with the departmental and other relevant departments (including Radiation Oncology, Hematology and Medical Oncology, Pathology and Radiology) strengthen and expand all elements of gynecologic care and research which will enable the institution to continue to be a leading institution for gynecologic cancer.
Provide comprehensive gynecologic oncology care.
Participate in the supervision of the Fellows, Residents and medical students.
This position will be based at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.
Board Certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. Leadership experience with a minimum of seven years of academic medical center experience is preferred. License to practice Medicine in New York State.
